The European Union is a geo-political entity covering a large portion of the European continent. It is founded upon numerous treaties and has undergone expansions that have taken it from 6 member states to 27, a majority of states in Europe.

Membership Advantages/ Disadvantages

Advantages- same currency, war prevention, increased trade, low inflation, help lesser developed countries gain wealth.

Disadvantages- instability, loss of sovereignty, lower countries, such as Greece bring economy down.


Effect on Local Diversity

The use of the Euro as currency for the members of this Union has had a great effect on local diversity. rather than use currency that dates back many years, countries are forced to use the Euro, which simplifies things, but also takes out the traits that make a country diverse.
